Armenian civic activists have organized a rally in central Yerevan in support to the families of soldiers who were killed in the recent military offensive along the Nagorno-Karabakh frontline.
Gathered at the intersection between the Baghramyan and Proshyan Avenues (not far from the Presidential Palace), the members of the group “We are the Masters of Our Country” call for giving the affected families aid in the amount of at least US $30,000. They also demand aid, worth minimum $5,000, for injured servicemen.

The group earlier raised other demands. They called particularly for several government officials, including Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian, Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan and Chief of the Armed Forces’ General Headquarters Haykaz Baghmanyan to step down “for inaction, and the human losses suffered due to their inability to control the situation.

In a statement shared on Facebook, the group also calls upon Mihran Poghosyan, the former chief compulsory officer who resigned over the Panama Papers’ scandal, to transfer his entire profit from offshore companies to the above families. They also stress the need of further efforts to oblige each and every tycoon politician to contribute minumun $10 million to the State Budget.

The group also urges the authorities to refrain from signing any deal over Nagorno-Karabakh, committing themselves to maintaining the status quo and ruling out territorial concessions or peacekeepers’ deployment in the country or its neighboring regions.
